“We are not born to please everybody”—Maine Mendoza

Despite all the fame and fortune after shooting to stardom a year ago, Maine Mendoza a.k.a. Kalyeserye’s Yaya Dub promised she will not change to gain people’s approval.

In her blog entry “That’s how it works,” Maine vented out her frustration about the idea of having to fit the mold of people’s expectations to retain success in the entertainment industry. According to Maine, the blog post was incited by something she encountered, yet she did not mention the details of the specific incident which made her “question some things.”

In a world “full of barbies,” Maine promised that she will remain true to herself and allow the real her to shine through. She wrote: ” If there is one thing in this world that I would never do, that would be it– pleasing people.”

“Why bother trying to be someone you are not when you can just be yourself? Why seek for people’s approval on how to live your life? Why let other people’s opinions define you?,” she added.

Maine also mentioned in the blog post that she does not need to alter herself in order to please people; she allows people to freely evaluate whether or not they like her.

“I do not need and want to pretend to be someone I am not and do something I am not willing to do just to be loved and “accepted” by the people in this “barbie world”. I would never change who I am just to conform to the norms of this industry. Sure, “that’s how it works”, but I am who I am; and it’s up to people if they will like me or not,” Maine said.

She drove a strong and memorable point home that people must be true to themselves since “We are not born to please everybody.”

She also advised people to live their life according to their own free will, without considering other people’s approval.

“How others see you is none of your business, at the end of the day what matters most is how you see yourself. You cannot control how others see you and think of you.”

Maine concluded her blog entry by encouraging people that it is best to remain true to themselves and not subscribing to other people’s expectations in order to be adored.

“Always be true to yourself and to those around you and remain that way– that would be enough. Remember that there will always be people who will love you; but it’s best to be loved for who you really are than who you are trying to be…that’s how it should work.”
