Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach made a courtesy call to Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte at the Malacañang Palace on Monday, July 18.
Pia, together with tourism secretary Wanda Teo, visited the president to discuss the possibility of the Philippines hosting the next Miss Universe pageant.
The 26-year-old beauty queen shared a selfie with President Duterte on her Instagram account and wrote: “What an honor it was to meet our new President, Rodrigo Duterte. First Mindanaon President and first Mindanaon Miss Universe #changeiscoming #philippines”
In an interview with Philippine Star, Tourism secretary Teo said that the president is supportive of the proposition and that hosting the pageant’s coronation night will have a positive impact on the country’s tourism.
“We will be broadcasted all over the world; we expect more tourists to come to the Philippines and that’s the benefit that we will get,” she told Star through a text message.
